South Boston

Southie is a tough city. Home to tough kids who don’t mind doing the dirty work on the court. WIth the influx of money and development into Seaport, some nice new public courts have come into our area. While the quality of play will never rival my hometown of Cambridge (a city with huge basketball pride, and a heritage that includes Patrick Ewing and countless Division 1 and professional players) its fun to see more people playing basketball in Southie.

Southie is a hybrid between community and city living. As a country girl trapped inside the body of a city girl, Southie provides me with a mix of recognizable faces (that actually say hello) and easy access to almost anything. Because it’s not for everyone, Southie is able to maintain a look and feel that its residents appreciate - buildings are intentionally understated (which prevents pretension) and newcomers (like myself) have the utmost respect for Southie’s roots in its hard working class of founders.

South Boston, particularly Andrew Square, embodies the melting pot that Boston truly represents, from residents dating back to the days of Whitey in their legacy homes, all the way to multi-million dollar complexes being developed daily. The Veterans Park courts represent that exact same mix, with a pure mix of scrap and pickup players playing on a daily basis. The entire area is one that you are immediately proud to call home, no matter where you are from.
