Somerville

"Somerville is like a Rubix Cube.  It's simple, but it's not always easy. "

Like basketball, when you think about it, Somerville is a place of patience. It’s a place to grow into your more real self be it the post college generation, the artist, the entrepreneur, the parent, the business person, the immigrant and anyone that represents the next generation of progress.
— Caitlin Jewell, Marketing (and Mayhem) Director, Co-Owner, Somerville Brewing Company (Slumbrew)
Somerville reminds me of Queens, NY more than some of the current analogies people make to it becoming another version of Brooklyn. The only reason I say this is because even if there is some obvious signs of gentrification... it’s still pretty monochromatic in the ethnic sense. Whereas in Brooklyn, even the most gentrified sections of it are still pretty diverse in terms of culture.

Somerville for me is a lot of things. Like other towns in Massachusetts. It’s unapolegetic. It’s honest. It’s flawed. It’s small but not small minded. It’s confident but not conceited. I think of Somerville and I smile because a good chunk of who I am is because of my experiences in this town growing up in an atypical one parent household.
— Garvey Salomon, Bartender/Event Manager, Parlor Sports & JV/Varsity Girls Basketball Coach, Maimonides
I’ve always been a city girl, and Somerville is the perfect place for me. I live on a quiet street yet can walk to multiple Squares for food, bars, shops, and groceries. The T is almost everywhere, but it’s easy to get in and out of here by car. I’ve lived here since long before it was hip to live here. We’ve been in our house since 2002 and were the “new kids on the block” for ten years. I love the history, as well as the new growth and development. After all this time, I am still proud to call Somerville my home.
