Paris Street Playground
In 2014, The Boston Parks and Recreation Department broke ground on a $922,700 renovation project at Paris Street Playground located at 115 Paris Street in East Boston. The project included new children’s play equipment, a water-spray feature, a new basketball court, benches, and landscaping.
A cool feature? Some of the benches feature solar-powered charging stations as part of Mayor Marty Walsh’s Youth Lead The Change program.
In January 2014, the City of Boston launched a groundbreaking participatory budgeting process to engage Boston youth in directly deciding how to spend $1 million of the city’s capital budget. Through participatory budgeting, young Bostonians identify projects to improve their communities, vet those projects, consider trade-offs, and vote on how to spend the $1 million. Sites like this are the end result.
